Bee an apiarist for a day at Starkey Farms!

This expedition will begin with a visit to a ShoreRivers wetland restoration site led by Brennan Starkey, owner of Starkey Farms and former ShoreRivers Governing Board Chairman. You will learn how a filled in retention pond was transformed into a beautiful cascading wetland which now functions to remove sediment and nutrients from the runoff going to the Sassafras River as well as providing crucial habitat to the ecosystem. From the wetlands we head to the lima bean fields and turn our focus to the art and science of beekeeping.

Apiarist Gary Robson will then provide an interactive exploration of the apiaries, which not only produce honey but also help to increase crop yield. Yes, you will don bee suits to bee-come an apiarist for a day! Refreshments will be provided.
