Environmental Education
Healthy, fishable, swimmable waterways will not be possible without the next generation of clean water enthusiasts. ShoreRivers strives to encourage in students an appreciation for our environment and a dedication to making a difference.
ShoreRivers leads a robust environmental education program that serves over 2,500 3rd grade and high school biology students every year in Dorchester, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, and Kent county schools. We provide students with a Meaningful Watershed Education Experience (MWEE), a Maryland State graduation requirement. ShoreRivers leads classroom lessons, field experiences, community-focused action projects, and teacher professional development.
ShoreRivers’ education department also works with local groups, including Channel Marker and Talbot Mentors, to provide environmental and outdoor programming to under-served youth. ShoreRivers is also recognized as a Maryland Green Center by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education. As a Green Center, we offer support to schools working toward being awarded Maryland Green Schools status.
